Investment Partner – Pre-seed

Role

The Investment Partner (pre-seed) will play a leading role in generating high-quality investment opportunities and supporting founders and their companies through the earliest stages of their growth. 

Responsibilities

  • Source new investment opportunities through personal networks, research, content generation, community engagement, and other appropriate means 
  • Perform due diligence on investment opportunities by meeting with founders, engaging with experts, performing market research, reviewing company data room. (Note that due diligence is supported by a full-time analyst)
  • Prepare investment rationales and lead the discussion of selected opportunities with an investment committee
  • Negotiate investment terms and important legal issues with support from Real’s Director of Legal and external counsel 
  • Act as a strategic advisor and mentor/advisor to founders as they scale their companies and develop as leaders
  • Cultivate networks of co-investors across Canada and North America 
  • Support the finance team by participating in and crafting the quarterly and annual investor reporting for portfolio companies 
  • Engage deeply with Canadian startup communities, especially in Montreal, to recruit companies, spread awareness of Real Ventures, and give back to the community 
  • Support any requests for information, or for any other purposes, concerning the portfolio companies and the Funds
  • Local travel (up to 15%) required for conferences, speaking engagements, company meetings, etc.

Qualifications & skills

  • Demonstrated interest in personal growth and self-development 
  • At least 8 years of work experience, with 3 years in angel investing, venture capital, private equity or investment banking, in the technology industry; AND/OR
  • At least 8 years of work experience, with 3 years as an entrepreneur or executive in a fast-growing technology startup
  • Deep passion and enthusiasm for startups, innovation and entrepreneurship
  • Knowledge and networks in startup ecosystems 
  • Exceptional analytical, communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to influence all levels of management cross-functionally and externally
  • Ability to make things happen quickly and thrive in a fast-paced, fluid and collaborative environment
  • Bilingualism (FR/EN) is essential

General Manager – FounderFuel

Role

The General Manager (GM) of FounderFuel works closely with the FounderFuel Program Manager (PM) and other cross-functional team members to deliver a successful, world-class accelerator program. The GM focuses on sourcing, investing in and supporting the accelerator companies, while the Program Manager focuses on operations and day-to-day execution of the FounderFuel playbook. The GM is also responsible for building a curated list of mentors, investors and program advisors.

Responsibilities

  • Drive sourcing for each accelerator cohort, including publicity, events and the application process  
  • Lead company selection, from first interviews to final decision, working in partnership with members of the Real Ventures investment team
  • Engage deeply in startup communities across Canada to recruit companies, spread awareness of the program, and give back to the community 
  • Act as a strategic advisor to program founders, supporting them in scaling their companies and developing as leaders    
  • Develop and implement core programming, including talks and content modules, with support form Real Ventures’ platform team  
  • Manage our extensive mentor network, consisting of hundreds of Canada’s top founders, executives and investors
  • Own the relationship with FounderFuel’s sponsors, a select group of leading companies and firms that support the program and help our startups to scale 
  • Manage and cultivate our investor network, consisting of VC firms and angel investors from across North America 

Qualifications & skills

  • Demonstrated interest in personal growth and self-development 
  • At least 8 years of work experience, with a minimum of 3 years experience as an entrepreneur or executive in a fast-growing technology startup; AND/OR
  • At least 8 years of work experience, with a minimum of 3 years of experience in angel investing, venture capital, private equity or investment banking, tech consulting experience in the technology industry
  • Deep passion and enthusiasm for startups, innovation, entrepreneurship
  • Knowledge and networks within startup ecosystems 
  • Strong critical thinking and presentation skills
  • Drive and a thirst for discovering disruptive technologies

FRV National Operations Manager

Front Row Ventures is the first Canadian student-run venture capital fund managed entirely by students that invests only in student-led startups. In partnership with Real Ventures since 2016, FRV has successfully run a $600K Quebec-focused pilot fund over the past two years. Operating across 20+ university campuses in Quebec and Ontario, FRV’s active investment team now counts 45+ outstanding students from diverse backgrounds. FRV is currently raising a $10M fund to expand its operations to more than 35 university campuses across Canada; from Quebec to Ontario, British Columbia, the Prairies, and the Maritimes.

Role

We are seeking a dynamic go-getter for the position of National Operations Manager for FRV. This person will join the Real Ventures family to help build FRV’s programming and ensure a successful launch across Canada. As a core member of the FRV HQ team, the successful applicant will report to the Front Row Ventures National Managing Director. He/she will own various aspects of FRV’s model consolidation, growth strategy and expansion operations, as well as leading FRVs national community & marketing efforts. 

Responsibilities

  • Project Management  – Organize timelines, deadlines, and schedules for ongoing projects with the community and investment teams. Responsible for communicating back to the HQ and ensuring timely completion of team initiatives. Managing 12 to 20 people on various projects. 

  • Content creation – Write blog posts, articles, newsletters, communications materials, and materials for social media channels. Provide the community teams with marketing & brand guidelines

  • Social media marketing – Working with the community associates to create, manage and grow the company’s presence through blogs, Twitter, Facebook and other strategically-relevant online properties

  • Events and event planning – Attend industry events in your city (often outside of 9-5 hours) and plan meetups for your community

  • Public relations – Manage incoming media requests and build relationships with industry journalists; create, execute and measure media campaigns

  • Founder relations –  Responsible for founders’ support – answer questions (phone, email, Twitter) and manage any online questions/feedback.

Qualifications & skills

  • University degree in Business, Communications, Marketing, or a relevant field 
  • 2-3 years of experience in a similar role 
  • Strong writing skills and exceptional attention to detail 
  • Excellent project management skills and a track record of delivering results
  • Data-driven, with the ability to analyze, test and optimize strategies 
  • Passionate about technology and the power of entrepreneurship to shape the future 
  • Known for your exceptional organizational skills
  • Bilingualism (French/English)

  • Have experience with graphic design/photo & video production
  • Have a good knowledge of the Canadian startup ecosystem
