Welcoming Marcel LeBrun to the Real team

October 10, 2018

As a mission-driven venture capital firm, we believe deep and meaningful support beyond the cheques we write can significantly increase the chances of success for cutting-edge tech startups. By sharing our breadth of experience and knowledge with entrepreneurs, opening our networks and helping build stronger tech ecosystems, we can give the best entrepreneurs the greatest chance at building world-changing companies from anywhere.

For this reason, Real is thrilled to announce the addition of Marcel LeBrun to our team as Venture Partner. Marcel is arguably one of Canada’s most successful entrepreneurs: a software company founder, tech executive and social entrepreneur, he has a formidable history of not just growing impactful companies but also giving back to the community.

“The addition of Marcel to our team aligns with our mission to serve world-changing entrepreneurs,” said Real founding partner, JS Cournoyer. “He is an amazing human being and successful entrepreneur who took a company public, built one of the most successful SaaS companies in Canada and then built and ran one of Salesforce’s fastest growing divisions. He has the experience and mindset to guide entrepreneurs on their journey to success and we are grateful to have him on board.”

Marcel’s entrepreneurial history includes co-founding two successful startups and leading a NASDAQ/TSX IPO and six acquisitions. Most recently, he was SVP & GM of Marketing Cloud at, prior to which he was the CEO of Radian6, where he led the US$326M acquisition by — the CVCA Deal of the Year in 2011 and’s largest acquisition at the time.

“I really like Real’s team and vision,” said Marcel. “The focus on not just financial return but the view that we’re really making a significant difference in Canada and growing the ecosystem is attractive to me, as is the very collaborative nature of the firm.”

Marcel will both help source and support cutting-edge technology companies across Canada. He will continue to be based in Fredericton, New Brunswick where he also teaches and mentors part-time in the Masters of Technology Management and Entrepreneurship program at the University of New Brunswick.

“I’ve loved building companies in the past and I can bring a lot of my experience to help new companies break through,” LeBrun said. “I’ve been involved in the tech ecosystem in both Canada and globally for a while and I’ve been able to go against the idea that you have to be in a certain place to build a globally-successful tech company. I hope that I can bring increased attention to the quality of companies across the country and help wherever the need is.”

Real shares the same worldview and looks forward to working with Marcel in its mission to build the next generation of transformative companies.
