Alan MacIntosh has an enduring passion for innovative international technology businesses that started in 1983 as an oilfield engineer with Schlumberger, branched into corporate networks as a product manager with Hewlett Packard and continued with the mobile communications revolution when he joined Canada’s Telesystem group in 1990. He has been building, operating and investing in businesses at the intersection of wireless and the Internet ever since, navigating several innovation cycles and supporting many extremely fulfilling entrepreneur-led successes.As a venture investor since 1997, Alan co-founded GSM Capital, the first global wireless venture fund, which included successful investments in Saraïde (acquired by Infospace) and Paypal (Nasdaq: PYPL). In 2004, as a founding partner in Acta Wireless, he chaired OZ Communications (acquired by Nokia), helped create Millennial Media (NYSE: MM) and in 2008, co-founded Real Ventures, Canada’s largest and most active seed fund. Alan is also committed to improving the quality of life in the community including as President of the OSMO Foundation and as a board director of the McCord Museum, the Quartier de l’Innovation (QI) and the Mobile Giving Foundation Canada. A native of Scotland, keen cyclist and life long skier, Alan holds a BSc (Hons) in Offshore Engineering from Heriot-Watt University and MBA from INSEAD.
