FounderFuel Launches With Over $2 Million Dollars Committed To The Program
Montreal based accelerator now accepting applications for its fall 2011 program.
MONTREAL, QC – June 2, 2011 –
The team behind Montreal Start Up, investor in such companies as Beyond The Rack (the fastest growing e-commerce company in North America in 2010) and recently launched Real Ventures ($50 million seed-stage fund), today announced their commitment of over $2 million dollars to the newly created Montreal based accelerator program called FounderFuel (http://founderfuel.com).
Having returned to Montreal after many years in the Valley, Ian Jeffrey, formerly Vice President at Tiny Pictures (Radar.net) and subsequently Director of Marketing at Shutterfly after its acquisition of Tiny Pictures, has been tapped to launch the FounderFuel program and become its General Manager.
“Montreal’s startup scene is alive and kicking.” said Ian Jeffrey, GM of FounderFuel. “and being just an hour away from such hotbeds as New York and Boston we are also able to tap into a number of US based mentors such as David Cancel (Performable) and David Hauser (Chargify) from Boston.”
David Cohen founder and CEO at TechStars commented on the launch, “We’ve known the team behind FounderFuel for some time and exchanged many ideas with them and we think they are going to run a great program.”
Brad Feld, Partner at Foundry Group and also of Techstars fame added, ”Having spent time in Montreal recently as part of the “Do More Faster” tour, I think i’ve got a read of the place and a good sense of the vibe … and i’ve got to tell you, in terms of the dynamics for Entrepreneurship, it’s pretty powerful place just to hang out in.”
Other visitors to Montreal had a similar experience with the city. “When asked to speak at a forum on a snowy bitter cold night of January in Montreal, you don’t expect much of a turnout.” said Perry Evans, CEO & Founder of Closely Inc., mentor at FounderFuel. ”But au contraire! Several hundred enthusiastic startup founders showed up and joined-in totally engaged for hours at the most recent Startup Camp Montreal.”
Having attracted over 85 experienced entrepreneurs, top executives, VCs, and Angels from around the world to join the team of mentors, FounderFuel is seeking disruptive teams of highly creative and committed entrepreneurs.
Selected teams will receive $10,000 in funding, plus an additional $5,000 per co-founder.
“With everything that the program has to offer, we’re convinced FounderFuel will play an important role in the success of startups from around the world and that they will really benefit from Montreal’s exploding startup ecosystem.” said John Stokes, Partner at Real Ventures.
Teams may apply at http://founderfuel.com until July 1st 2011.
